Community Chest Fund

Applications of this fund have now closed

The Community Chest was a fund of £250,000 made available to help communities recover from the effects of COVID-19. The fund supported one-off initiatives run by the voluntary and community sector, and wider community groups who were unable to secure mainstream funding from the Council or other sources.

Grants of up to £7,500 were awarded to supplement activities and projects, covering up to 75% of the total cost of the project. The Community Chest Scheme provided funding to initiatives that helped community groups secure long term sustainability; that helped the community to recover from the effects of COVID-19; and aligned to SWTC’s corporate priorities of housing and communities, the environment and the economy.

Executive Member for Communities, Cllr Chris Booth, said: “I am delighted that we are able to provide this boost for groups who have been giving their time, resources and commitment despite not being able to receive a grant or other funding.

“We know there are many people working hard in our communities to enable activities and projects to take place and operate safely. It is our aim to support them as they selflessly enhance people’s lives and help our communities recover from the effects of COVID-19.”

Cllr Booth engaged with ward councillors to make decisions relating to the fund in order to ensure that there was a geographic spread to the funding allocation.
