EDF Hinkley workforce uplift proposals

EDF Energy has submitted proposals to increase the size of the workforce originally intended to develop the new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C.

These proposals have now been submitted to the local authorities and partners who agreed the Section 106 Development Consent Order in 2012. This includes Somerset West and Taunton Council, Sedgemoor District Council, Somerset County Council and North Somerset Council.

5,600 workers were originally predicted to be on site during the peak period of construction. The new proposals will consider a workforce of 8,500.

EDF Energy have prepared six evidence-based 'Topic Papers' to explain what they believe will be the likely impacts of the increase, and what mitigation or enhancement measures are required to manage the change. The six papers cover:

  • workforce development;
  • transport;
  • accommodation;
  • environment;
  • health, and;
  • community safety.

We are working with our partners to review the proposals and determine what actions are required. The papers are available to view on Sedgemoor District Council's website.
