Green Homes Grant
Somerset West and Taunton Council encourage homeowners and private landlords to apply for a Green Homes Grant.
Applications to the Green Homes Grant scheme closed on 31 March 2021.
If you applied for a voucher before the closing date, your application will still be processed. We will be in touch to confirm if your application is successful.
If you have already been issued a voucher, you can still use it to get the work done. You should redeem your voucher before it expires. See the Gov.uk website for guidance.
The Green Homes Grant scheme, which is open for applications at the end of September, will allow Somerset West and Taunton residents to apply for vouchers for home improvements where the government will fund up to two-thirds of the cost of the works, helping families to save up to £600 a year on their energy bills.
Who can apply
Homeowners, including owner occupiers and private landlords, can apply for a voucher of up to £5,000 and low income households are eligible to receive 100% government funding, up to a maximum of £10,000.
What improvements can I get?
Vouchers can be used to cover green home improvements, primary measures include;
- Solid wall, under-floor, cavity wall or roof insulation
- Air source or ground source heat pump
- Solar thermal
If you chose to install at least one of these measures above, you are eligible for an additional voucher to fund the cost of a further energy saving measure, secondary measures include;
- Double or triple/secondary glazing, when replacing single glazing
- Upgrading to energy efficient doors
- Hot water tank/appliance tank thermostats/heating controls
Please bear in mind, the subsidy for the secondary measure is capped at the value of the subsidy provided for the primary measure. For example, if you receive £400 for a primary measure such as a cavity wall insulation, you will be able to receive a maximum of £400 for a secondary measure such as an energy efficient replacement door.
How do I apply?
You can apply for a voucher from the end of September 2020 on the Simple Energy Advice website.
Before you apply, you should first check to see if you are eligible for a voucher.
Go to Simple Energy Advice to check what improvements may be suitable for your home. Then, simply choose the improvements you would like to make and estimate how much it will cost to install.
You will need find accredited tradespeople or businesses (who are TrustMark registered) in Somerset to provide quotes and carry out the works. You can find a local TrustMark registered business on their website.
Once the works are agreed, vouchers will be issued from the end of September.
The scheme is running until March 2021 so we hope both residents and landlords make the most of the grants available as it is a fantastic opportunity to improve the efficiency of our local housing stock. The scheme will play a vital role in reducing carbon emissions, helping families to save money and providing healthier and more comfortable living conditions. There will be £2bn invested into this scheme and we hope Somerset West and Taunton residents take advantage of this funding.
