Case manager tenancy sustainment (rough sleeping project)

We are looking to appoint 2 full time Case Managers - Tenancy Sustainment to as part of our Rough Sleeping Initiative Project.

The homeless legislation in England has changed with a strong focus on homeless prevention and the reduction of Rough Sleeping. In order to work with our vulnerable clients and help support them into accommodation and help sustain the tenancies. SWT is looking for 2 Tenancy Sustainment Officers to work closely with this client group and help them through difficult times. The client group will comprise of long term entrenched rough sleepers to those who could be rough sleeping for the first time.

You will be responsible for identifying barriers to housing the clientele and find solutions to eradicating these. You will be the like between the client and landlord to ensure the tenancies run smoothly and will be able to assist in preventing the loss of any tenancies. You will build trust with the client and be able to identify support services they need to get them on their journey to independent living. You will need to be able to have difficult conversations if the client reverts to previous life style and be able to refer and engage with necessary services that will help them back to a place of stability that ensures the tenancy is not lost.

Although there are elements of lone working in this role, you will be working as part of our Rough Sleeper Initiative Project, with close links with the SWT Case Managers – Homeless and be a positive force and strong team player in the team. You will have a strong partnership ethos and work closely with private and social landlords and other partners. You will have the knowledge of this client group and be able to be their voice working with services to maximise their income, identify and network with the services needed to get clients back to independent living and to build a trusting honest relationships with clients and partners alike.

You will need to have excellent persuasion and negotiation skills, an understanding of benefits and homeless legislation, honest and trustworthy ethos and most importantly be a fantastic people person. You will be able to work with minimum supervision and be able to think quickly on your feet to solve difficult situations.
Excellent communication skills and keep excellent records and computer literate. Most importantly, you will need to have extensive experience working with the Rough Sleeping community and full understanding or the barriers and social problems they face and the services that they engage.

This is a big ask of someone but the rewards of helping prevent vulnerable people from street homelessness are great.

Although based in the Councils Offices in Deane House, you will be working mobile a lot of the time across the Somerset West and Taunton area.

These posts are funded by Central Government and will be for a 12 months period only.
