This role will be in the landlord asset management team of the new Somerset Council. The Council’s in-house landlord function owns manages and maintains c5700 homes for rent plus 400 leasehold properties.
The Asset Management Team leads investment decisions for the Council on its homes ensuring they are safe, healthy and up to or exceed national standards of decency. The team collects and analyses data on its homes to make its decisions and is leading on the implementation of a long-term strategy to improve the thermal performance of its homes into zero carbon homes. This is an exciting opportunity to tackle climate change through appropriate investment in carbon reducing measures.
In this two year post, the successful candidate will work in a team of eight specialists including a lead asset manager, data manager and surveyors with access to specialist energy consultants. The team sits within a wider landlord role of c180 housing and trade professionals who together manage tenancies and maintain stock. The team includes two graduates creating new capacity for the team and leading innovation.
You will develop the services capacity to collect, manage and analyse data to create pathways to zero carbon housing aligning our c£9m annual capital budget to grants and subsidy currently £23m over the next four years. Your work will create packages of works for our delivery teams and contractors to implement ensuring the service optimises its investment and meets both its legal and service ambitions.
This is a role with agile working opportunities, although for the first two months a greater proportion of time will be required in a Council location to allow coaching and software support. During your contract you will receive peer support as part of Somerset Council's Graduate Scheme and opportunities, subject to agreement, to experience other service areas within the Council.

Presentation and Formal interview:
If successful at the shortlisting stage, you will be asked to present on the following topic – “What do you consider to be the main aspects of a landlord asset management service?” – the presentation should last no more than 15 minutes and will then be followed by up to 5 minutes of follow up questions.
Presentations will be carried out over MS Teams on the following dates:

- Thursday, 13 April 2023
If successful at the presentation stage, you will then be invited to attend a formal interview on the following dates:
- Wednesday, 19 April 2023
- Thursday, 20 April 2023
Please note that the successful candidate may be required to undergo a DBS process.
This role requires the post holder to hold a valid full Car driving licence (Category B) with no more than six points on it.
