Interviews w/c 4 July 2022

The District is an ambitious growth focused organisation with a commitment to healthy place-shaping and high-quality design. With the designation of a Garden Town for Taunton and having obtained funds through the restoring railways programme for a new Station for Wellington this is an exciting time for the District.

The Council is seeking a Service Manager for Development Management to provide proactive leadership and management. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Strategic Place and Planning this is a challenging post at a time of significant transformation as we move to a new Somerset Unitary authority from 1 April 2023.

The successful candidate will be expected to lead this part of the planning service through the transition and make a significant contribution to help deliver the Council’s own development programme, strategic sites and projects in the District. This requires a strong background in planning within both urban and rural environments focussing on large scale development schemes.

The Council operates a hybrid working model including homeworking and use of the Council’s offices in both Taunton and Williton. The Council currently operates a Flexible Working Hours Scheme which applies to this post.

You will need a valid full Car driving license (Category B), with no more than six points on it.

Please note that the successful applicant may be required to undergo a DBS process.
