Gambling Act 2005 statement of licensing principles

The council’s ‘licensing authority’ function is required, by section 349 of the Gambling Act 2005, to prepare and publish a statement of licensing principles that it intends to apply when exercising its functions under the Act. This is commonly referred to as the ‘policy statement’ and must be reviewed and published every three years.

During the three-year period, the policy must be kept under review and the licensing authority may make any revisions to it as it considers appropriate.

The licensing authority of Somerset West and Taunton has revised and prepared a Gambling Act 2005 Statement of Principles 2022 to 2025, for the period 2019 to 2022, to replace those previously published by Taunton Deane Borough Council and West Somerset Council. The consultation on the draft policy has finished. A second draft will be prepared, with a view of it being adopted at the meeting of Full Council on the 26 February.
