Council’s construction partner receives top accolade

07 July 2020 : Council news, Planning and development

SWT’s delivery partner for the regeneration of Coal Orchard has received a top accolade from an independent organisation raising standards in the construction industry.

Midas Construction, part of the Midas Group, received a Certificate of Excellence from the Considerate Constructors Scheme for its care and respect towards the community, the environment, the site appearance and the work force.

Midas Construction started work on the Coal Orchard development in August 2019.

The detailed plans to regenerate one of Taunton’s prime riverside quarters
include a mix of apartments, retail, workspace, and restaurants; and incorporate a riverfront plaza with a stepped terrace to make the most of its position on the River Tone.

The Midas team have been working closely with the Council to minimise disruption, protect the environment and keep the local community up to date with progress of the development.

Residents and businesses have been invited to attend a presentation on the project providing information on diversions, phasing, and times of peak work; they receive a regular newsletter and have access to the project manager on site.

The Certificate of Excellence was awarded to Midas as the site has complied with the Scheme's Code of Considerate Practice by achieving a score of eight or above in each of the five qualifying sections.

Cllr Marcus Kravis, Executive Member for Economic Development, said: “Coal Orchard is an important site in our town centre regeneration plans and will bring new vitality to the area putting the River Tone at the heart of Taunton.

I am delighted that Midas have been recognised for their care and attention to the building work and the community throughout this project.

Keeping traders and residents informed and listening to their concerns around aspects of the development has been key to this success and together we are committed to maintaining engagement with the community to keep them fully informed and minimise any disruption at this central site.”

Mike Borkowski, Business Development Director at Midas Construction, said: “As a regionally based business we are conscious of the effect of building work on the local community and have strived to ensure we are fully engaged and
considerate at all times.

We are proud to be delivering this exciting, and important, regeneration project for SWT and are delighted that our care and attention on site has been recognised as being over and above statutory requirements.”
