Reopening play areas safely

03 July 2020 : Council news, Sport and leisure

SWT has been preparing its play areas for opening on Saturday 4 July following the release of new Government guidelines.

Risk assessments have been carried out and signage is being put up to guide people using Council-owned playgrounds across the district.

Information is also being shared with town and parish councils, who in some cases own and manage play areas.

Anyone using playgrounds in Somerset West and Taunton is advised to follow social distancing guidelines at all times and to clean their hands before and after use.

In addition the Council is asking that only one adult per household accompanies children inside the play area; if a play area feels too crowded people should form a queue or come back later; and during busy periods time in the play area should be limited to 30 minutes to ensure everyone gets a turn safely.

In preparation for reopening, the play areas are being jet washed and the Council’s open spaces teams have been cutting grass and tidying up as required.

Please help to keep these spaces clean and tidy by disposing of all litter in the bins provided. If bins are full please take your litter home.

If you have any concerns about the safe use of play areas, or to report a problem please contact us on 0300 304 8000 or report it using our general enquiries online form.
