Sign up for paperless billing

06 March 2020 : Council news

Somerset West and Taunton Council is encouraging people to go green and sign up for paperless billing.

The initiative is part of the Council’s commitment to creating a more sustainable future for everyone, putting climate and environmental responsibility at the heart of everything it does.

Paperless billing is a faster, more efficient and convenient way for customers to receive and check their council tax or business rates bills.

The electronic service means customers can view bills at their convenience or download and print if necessary, for example, to show proof of address.

It also helps SWT cut down on printing and postage costs so the Council has more money to spend on services.

Cllr Peter Pilkington, Executive Member for Climate, said: “The Council is in the process of developing an engaging and inclusive district-wide plan as part of its commitment to tackling climate change.

We aim to enable and support everyone to work towards achieving carbon neutrality and climate resilience by 2030.

Leading by example and making small changes such as going paperless is integral to our long term aim of creating a more environmentally responsible council and a sustainable future.

I would encourage as many people as possible to support this initiative and go paperless.”

Everyone who receives a council tax or business rates bill has the option to get them by email instead.

Signing up is simple using an online form with your council tax or business rates account number.

Information on the promotion is being given on the paper bills currently being mailed out and on the website.

You can sign up for or cancel paperless billing at any time. If there are other people named on your bill they will continue to get a paper bill until you are all signed up for paperless billing.
