Free trees

Cllr Peter Pilkington, Executive Member for Climate Change is delighted to be offering Parish and Town Councils free trees for National Tree Planting Week, 28 November to 5 December 2020.

We are offering you the opportunity to order trees, stakes, ties and guards to the value of £50.00 per council, free of charge.

You can choose from Oak, Beech, Lime and Hawthorn, 150cm - 175cm bare root trees to be collected from one of three locations across our district; Taunton Deane Nurseries, Wellington Depot or Minehead Depot week commencing 23 November 2020.

Closing date Friday 23 October 2020.

Step One

To take part in this scheme you must be a Parish or Town Council within the Somerset West and Taunton District.

Step Two

Using the price list below, decide how many of each species you would like, this can be in any combination to the value of £50.00.

Price List

  • Oak 150cm – 175cm bare root, including stake, tie and guard £5.50
  • Beech 150cm – 175cm bare root, including stake, tie and guard £7.00
  • Lime 150cm – 175cm bare root, including stake, tie and guard £6.00
  • Hawthorn 150cm – 175cm bare root, including stake, tie and guard £4.75

Step Three

Email your request to freetrees@somersetwestandtaunton.gov.uk, providing the following information;

  • Parish/Town Council name
  • contact name
  • contact telephone number
  • the number of Oak trees requested
  • the number of Beech trees requested
  • the number of Lime trees requested
  • the number of Hawthorn trees requested
  • your preferred collection point

Step Four

A member of our team will process your request and add it to our main supplier order. We will contact you to confirm your request and to book a collection timeslot, which will be for the week commencing 23 November 2020. Time slots will be allocated between the hours of 08:00am and 15:00pm, Monday to Friday only, to be confirmed.

Step Five

Collect your trees from your chosen collection point on the day and time agreed.

Step Six

Plant your trees using the tree planting advice and guidance available from organisations such as The Woodland Trust, Royal Horticultural Society and The Tree Council.
